Raise DC Learning Tours: National counterparts & promising practices

RaiseDCLearningTours

Structured upon the principle of continuous improvement, Raise DC encourages its members to learn from innovative communities throughout the country to promote educational and workforce success in the District.

As part of this effort, Raise DC has been supporting Learning Tours for Change Network members throughout the cradle-to-career continuum. These tours have allowed Change Network members the chance to shadow organizations nationwide that excel at using data to ensure every child in their communities is given opportunities to succeed. By learning from colleagues in other cities, Change Network members have begun to garner best practices to apply to their own efforts here in DC.

In the upcoming weeks, we will feature guest blog posts by several members who have already taken advantage of Raise DC’s Learning Tours. From Seattle to St. Louis, Oregon to Iowa, these groups are learning about effective ways to re-engage youth, support college-bound students, and build workforce pathways. Check back on the Raise DC blog for new reflections each week.

How to Apply

Raise DC is still accepting applications for the Learning Tours, which are funded by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education. The tours allow up to three members of an organization to receive funding for a “trip to best practices” – including transportation, lodging, and meals per diem. Direct service nonprofit organizations, LEAs, DCPS schools, and public charter schools that are affiliated with Raise DC and work directly with children or youth (ages 0-24) are eligible to apply.

For inquiries or to submit a proposal for your own group’s learning tour, contact Aisha Shah. Tour funding will be granted on a first come, first serve basis.
