Accelerating Outcomes Through Local Leadership Training

Raise DC is facilitating a series of intensive, results-based leadership development seminars to improve educational outcomes in the District. The local StriveTogether Leadership Program (STLP), modeled on the Results-based Leadership training by Annie E. Casey Foundation, brings together teams of community leaders and change-makers to coach, scaffold, and accelerate progress toward specific outcomes across the cradle-to-career continuum.

The local leadership training comes after a five-person Raise DC team participated in a national training with four other StriveTogether communities over the course of the past year. This team, which focused on increasing enrollment in postsecondary credential programs, received guidance in results-based facilitation, studied best practices, and worked toward implementing concrete interventions to improving citywide outcomes in postsecondary enrollment.

Raise DC has committed to expanding the STLP opportunity locally to 26 DC leaders in five outcome areas:

  • Kindergarten readiness
  • Early grade literacy
  • High school graduation
  • Reconnection
  • Postsecondary persistence

The STLP local participants represent a vast cross-section of city leaders, including members of our Leadership Council, content heads from education agencies, local education association administrators, and directors of partnering community-based organizations. These members aim to develop interventions to accelerate progress toward Raise DC’s goals. The group met for its first two-day trainings in May and will convene for three additional trainings over the next year. Participants include:
