ROSIE ALLEN-HERRING

President & CEO

As President and Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of the National Capital Area, Rosie Allen-Herring brings more than 20 years of experience in the areas of partnership development, corporate philanthropy, and community investment to the District. Formerly, Allen-Herring was the Managing Director of the Community Investment and Engagement Division at Fannie Mae where she oversaw corporate philanthropic strategy as well as social responsibility investments.

Allen-Herring also served as the Senior Deputy Director to the Washington, DC, Community Business Center, where she developed key business strategies resulting in investments of more than $2 billion in the Washington Metropolitan area. Allen-Herring holds leadership roles with several business and civic organizations including: the Greater Washington Board of Trade, District of Columbia Chamber of Commerce, Washington Area Women’s Foundation, and Girl Scouts of the Nation’s Capital. Additionally, she was a Board Member for Washington DC’s exploratory Olympic committee, Washington 2024.

Allen-Herring earned a B.A. in economics from Howard University, an M.B.A. from Strayer University, and was selected as an International Fellow by the United States Southern Africa Center for Leadership and Public Values at the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business and Duke University Graduate School of Public Policy. Allen-Herring has been recognized by many organizations, including Washingtonian Magazine’s “Most Powerful Women” (2013), named Washington Business Journal’s “Most Influential Business Leader (2013)”, and was given Washington Business Journal’s “Women Who Mean Business Award” in 2011. Allen-Herring has also been listed among  “Outstanding Young Women of America,” and “Who’s Who in America.
