9th Grade Counts Network

As part of Raise DC's Graduation Pathways Project, the 9th Grade Counts Network (9GCN) is a Change Network formed in 2015 to ensure that every student transitions successfully to and through 9th grade, on track to graduate. Comprised of school-based partners, community-based organizations, and government agencies, 9GCN empowers schools with the right information to better meet the needs of incoming 9th graders and equips students with the opportunities and resources to succeed in 9th grade.
 

Bridge to High School Data Exchange

Through the 9th Grade Counts Network (9GCN), stakeholders are collaborating to strengthen student transitions from middle to high school. In summer 2016, the 9GCN, with leadership from OSSE, piloted a Bridge to High School Data Exchange to equip participating high schools with key student-level data for their incoming 9th graders. Since then, this data exchange has served as a launch pad for members to scale effective practices, develop middle-to-high school partnerships, and elevate specific infrastructure and policy barriers that need to be addressed to key citywide leaders. In SY 19-20, 95% of eligible middle and high school campuses are participating, representing 5,000+ enrolling 9th graders.

Bridge to High School Kid Talk

In response to local education agency (LEA) feedback from a Bridge to High School Data Exchange survey, Raise DC and OSSE launched “Kid Talk” in August 2017. Kid Talk offers middle schools and high schools an opportunity to connect in person to:

  • Review 8th grade data and offer insights to guide student-specific planning for rising 9th graders

  • Launch ongoing working relationships between middle and high schools to continue to support shared students throughout their freshman year.

Now in its third year, the Bridge to High School Kid Talk is aiming for participation from more than 30 campuses.

In June of 2000, Venture Philanthropy Partners opened it doors, spurred by the efforts of three founders who asked themselves,
“Could the business world provide a different, innovative approach to social change?”

In the years that followed, VPP quickly became a strategic hub for high-impact investments through deep and sustained partnerships with foundations, businesses, government agencies and school systems.

In April of 2020, VPP formed a strategic alliance with Raise DC to build an investment organization capable of driving alignment among communities, and nonprofit, business and regional leaders around systems change. VPP+Raise DC committed to call out and confront policies, practices and systems that contribute to racial inequity.

Today, we recognize the need to do more, be bolder, and act faster. Youth Invest Partners is a call to “dream big and do big” to drive change that will build better futures for Greater Washington youth today and in the days, months and years to come. Our new name and brand reflects energy and focus as we collaborate, innovate and transform.
